"My professor was kind and down-to-earth, nurturing us like a plant with water and sunlight."

Our alumna Qurat ul ain Shah graduated with a master's degree in engineering & information technology in 2018 and now works as a software developer in the standard development of supply chain logistics at SAP.

Tell us, what are you doing right now and what does your professional life look like?

I am a software developer in one of the development teams of SAP EWM (Extended Warehouse Management). As a developer, I write design documents for new features, meaning I design them. Then, I develop prototypes, present them in meetings, and work on feedback. These prototypes are then integrated into SAP S/4 HANA.

What makes your industry so exciting for you?

We get to work on complex problems and provide industry solutions used by top German industries.

How do you imagine your future professional career? What career paths, opportunities for advancement, or professional fields would you like to pursue in the next few years?

I see myself advancing further in the development industry and becoming a development expert.

Application processes are always exciting. How do you remember this phase immediately after graduation? Were there any particular challenges?

Definitely. At that time, I could not speak German, and many companies required it. So, I worked for a small American company and took German classes twice a week in the evenings.

What have you learned from your studies that is helpful in the working world?

Good problem-solving skills, a growth mindset, and resilience.

It's been a long time: How did you decide on your degree programme?

I saw on the internet that SRH was offering some interesting topics.

What made your studies at SRH University Heidelberg special?

The inclusive environment and the humble nature of our professor, Prof. Gotscheber, who made us feel valued and seen.

What experiences would you like to pass on to students or young alumni on their journey?

Working on feedback is key to growth. Build resilience, be thankful and grateful for what you have, respect everyone - especially your family. Always compare yourself with your past self, not others, as everyone has their own journey.
